A solo practitioner attorney sat on the screen in front of me. She was tired, successful on the outside, but spinning in circles behind the scenes. She’d downloaded all the freebies, tried three different expert-recommended marketing approaches, and even joined a “high-ticket” group program that left her with more questions than answers.
“I just don’t know what I’m supposed to do next,” she said. “Everything seems to contradict everything else.”
Sound familiar? This is a conversation I’ve had more times than I can count. I’ve also been in that person’s seat, feeling the same way.
The pressure to get it right gets loud. So we take in more advice. Download more checklists. Watch more webinars.
But instead of clarity and growth, we often end up with scatteredness and overwhelm.
The Truth About Feeling Stuck
Here’s what I told her and what I’ll tell you, too: “You’re not lost or behind. You’re buried in the noise.”
That stuck feeling often comes from being weighed down by comparison, conflicting advice, and the constant pressure to live up to someone else’s version of success. It’s no wonder your business dream feels out of reach.
But your next step is there; it’s simply been drowned out. When you slow down and create even a little space, that inner knowing has room to surface again.
Vision Is Fuel
When clarity feels distant, I don’t jump straight into strategy. First, we get grounded in vision. Strategy only works when it’s rooted in where you truly want to go, and not where someone else is heading.
So I ask my clients the same questions I’ll ask you:
- If no one else’s voice was in your head, what would your dream vision for your business and life look like?
- What kinds of services do you love delivering to your clients?
- What kind of income feels exciting and easeful?
- What does your ideal workweek or workday really look like?
- Who are you surrounded by?
- Where do you feel most like yourself doing your best work?
This is the point when my client’s shoulders dropped. Their voices soften and I can feel the shift. When you finally say your truth out loud (even quietly) the path ahead gets clearer. This is when they remember their direction.
Practices That Help You Hear Yourself Again
If your mind is buzzing with too many options or should-dos, try one of these practices to help you reset and reconnect:
📓 Future-self journaling: Write about your goals as if they’ve already happened. Reflect with gratitude. Release any urgency.
🧘🏾♀️ Guided meditations or prayers: A few minutes with a quieting practice that centers you can make all the difference. (Insight Timer is a great option I use on a daily basis.)
📣 Speak it out loud: Sometimes clarity and lightbulb moments come the moment you give your inner thoughts a voice.
🔥 Curate what you consume: Tune into content that inspires rather than overwhelms. (Sahil Bloom’s The Five Types of Wealth and his regular inspirational emails are some of my more recent personal go-tos.)
Practicing just one of these tools for 15-20 minutes, two times a day can help make the space you need to gain clarity.
Know What’s Worth Saying Yes To
Once your vision is clear, choices become simpler. You’re no longer pulled in every direction. You begin making decisions based on what aligns.
Here’s a simple Go/No-Go Guide my clients often use when they feel pulled in too many directions.
✨ Ask yourself:
- Does this align with my current priorities?
- Does it energize me or weigh me down before I even begin?
- Will this move me closer to the business I’m building? Or pull me off course?
- Do I have the capacity and genuine desire to commit to it right now?
A clear “yes” feels different in your body. And if you’re unsure, it’s okay to wait. That pause is a form of clarity, too.
Saying yes with intention (not to everything) is what builds momentum.
What’s Your Next Clear Step?
There’s no need to blow up your business or reinvent everything. More often than not, the shift starts with a moment of stillness. Picture a quiet return to your voice or a willingness to trust what’s been inside you all along.
When you reconnect with your vision:
✨ Decisions feel lighter.
✨ Boundaries feel stronger.
✨ Your work starts to reflect the version of life you actually want (not the one you’re “supposed” to want.)
Ask yourself: What do I want this next season of my business to feel like?
Then, let that feeling shape your next step. Let it guide what you say yes to and what you gently release. Clarity whispers, not shouts. And the more you listen, the clearer it gets.
