I’m deep in the process of preparing and selling my mom’s house – from over 600 miles away. I’ve moved plenty of times before (life with a college basketball coach will do that), but this is different. Clearing out, packing up, and prepping someone else’s home, especially one filled with memories and treasures, is a whole new kind of emotional and logistical challenge.
We moved Mom from the Chicago area to New York back in December to be closer to us. Preparing her home for sale has taken a lot of time, energy, and coordination. More than I expected. And I also run a full-time, six-figure business coaching practice. So something had to give. But it was never going to be the quality of care my clients receive. That’s non-negotiable.
What has shifted is my marketing. I’ve learned, especially after navigating so many life changes in recent years, that in seasons like this, I need to simplify. I need to focus on what works. And for me, that’s always been about real connection. Reaching out. Checking in. Having honest conversations.
So I gave myself one clear goal: each week, reach out to 10 people. From that, schedule at least 3 coffee chats or quick calls. Just talk. Listen. Learn what’s going on in their business. Offer support or solutions where I can. That’s it. And inevitably, that leads to new or returning clients, aligned work, and business that flows easily, gracefully, and with meaning.

Summer is around the corner, and with it comes a natural shift in energy, both for you and your clients. It’s the perfect time to rethink your marketing approach and focus on strategies that truly fit your style, your audience, and the season ahead.
Instead of overwhelming yourself with a dozen new ideas, let’s simplify. You don’t need to do everything! You just need to find the intersection between:
- Your communication strengths
- Where your ideal clients spend their time
- And what you can (and want to!) show up for consistently.
Let’s dive into how you can find your summer marketing sweet spot and create a plan that feels aligned, doable, and energizing.
Step 1: Know Your Communication Strengths
Marketing should build momentum, not drain it. Start by asking:
- What is my communication strength? Are you a natural writer, speaker, or on-camera communicator?
If you love writing, blogging or thoughtful emails could be your best bet.
If you shine on video, think about creating short clips for social media or hosting live sessions.
If speaking energizes you, podcasts, interviews, or webinars might be your marketing home base.
🎯The goal: Choose activities that feel energizing, not exhausting.
Step 2: Focus on Where Your Ideal Clients Hang Out
Even if you’re creating brilliant content, it won’t matter if your audience isn’t seeing it.
Ask yourself:
- Where is my ideal customer spending time? Are they scrolling social media? Reading emails? Listening to podcasts? Attending local events?
Knowing where they already engage makes it easier for you to meet them where they are and make real connections.
🎯The goal: Align your efforts with their habits for better engagement.
Step 3: Evaluate the Costs (and Your Bandwidth)
Your marketing plan should support your financial and time goals, not sabotage them.
- What are the costs involved? Are they sustainable within your current budget and available time?
For example, hiring a video editor for weekly YouTube uploads might sound glamorous, but if the cost or time commitment stresses you out, it’s probably not your summer sweet spot.
🎯The goal: Choose strategies you can commit to confidently.
Step 4: Choose What You’ll Actually Show Up For
This might be the most important question of all:
- What am I most likely to show up consistently for? Will you dread it? Or will you (mostly) enjoy it?
The truth is that consistency beats perfection every time. Your audience needs to hear from you regularly. So if you’re excited to record quick videos or write short weekly tips, lean into that.
🎯The goal: Pick marketing activities you’ll do reliably, even when life gets busy.
Bonus Tip: Let Your Uniqueness Shine
No matter which marketing path you choose, remember:
✨ Your distinct voice, perspective, and approach are your superpowers. ✨
Instead of trying to sound like everyone else, showcase what makes you different:
- Offer fresh perspectives.
- Address overlooked problems.
- Challenge the status quo when needed.
When you embrace your true voice, you’ll naturally stand out and attract the right people.
